Herbal care at a distance

If you live too far to come in, or you only need your herbal formula refilled or adjusted, you do not need a clinic appointment. Rootworth is the online herbal practice founded by Michael Woodworth, M.S., L.Ac., and it handles herbal care through an online intake.

Custom herbal formulas from an online intake, read by Michael himself. Herbal care only: it does not include acupuncture.

Who it is for

  • You live too far to come in

Oceanside or Rancho Bernardo is out of reach for regular visits, and herbal medicine suits your concern.

  • You already see us

You need an herbal refill or a formula adjustment between or after clinic visits, without booking a visit.

  • Your concern is mainly herbal

It does not need needling or hands-on treatment, and an online intake gives Michael what he needs.

Come in instead for acupuncture, hands-on treatment or anything that needs an examination in person. Book a visit

What it is

Rootworth prescribes custom classical herbal formulas from an online intake. You fill in a detailed questionnaire and send a photo of your tongue and any records that matter. Michael reads the intake himself, writes a formula for your pattern, and the formula is prepared as powdered herbal extracts and shipped to you. Follow-up re-exams adjust the formula as your pattern changes. Rootworth lists its current fees on its own site.

Rootworth does not include acupuncture, and it is not a substitute for care from your physician. Anything urgent belongs with your physician or emergency care first.

How it works

  1. Read how the intake works

Rootworth explains the steps, the fee and where your records live.

  2. Create your portal account

Rootworth sends you to the Makari Wellness patient portal, where your intake, chart and formula history are kept.

  3. Complete the intake

A detailed questionnaire, a photo of your tongue and any records that matter.

  4. Michael writes your formula

He reads the intake himself and prescribes for your pattern. The formula is prepared and shipped to you.

  5. Follow-up re-exams

The formula is adjusted as your pattern changes. Refills do not need a visit.

Three ways to work with Michael

Questions people ask

Is Rootworth part of Makari?

Rootworth is the online herbal practice founded by Michael Woodworth, M.S., L.Ac., who also runs Makari. Michael reads every intake himself, and your records are kept by the Makari Wellness clinic, in the same patient portal.

Does Rootworth include acupuncture?

No. Rootworth is herbal care only. Acupuncture and any other hands-on treatment need a visit at one of our clinics.

How is this different from a telemedicine visit?

A telemedicine visit is a live video appointment with Michael, so it uses the same clinician time as a clinic visit and is priced like one. Rootworth works from an online intake instead of an appointment, which makes it the efficient option when what you need is your herbs.

I am already a Makari patient. Can I use it for refills?

Yes. Established Makari patients can use Rootworth for herbal re-exams, refills and formula adjustments between or after visits in the clinic.

Does Rootworth take insurance?

No. Like Makari, Rootworth does not bill insurance. Rootworth lists its current fees on rootworth.org.
