Trying to conceive, IVF support, PCOS, painful or irregular periods, and the years around menopause. We read the whole cycle and work beside your OB, midwife or fertility clinic, never in place of them.
Here the classical lens leads: differential pattern diagnosis decides the treatment, with the Western picture as context.
The Western lensAnatomy, physiology, biomechanics
The cycle as a conversation
The menstrual cycle is run by the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis, a conversation between the brain and the ovaries that is sensitive to stress, sleep, blood sugar and blood flow. Tests such as AMH, FSH and progesterone describe parts of it; we explain them as education and leave diagnosis with your physician.
Alongside your clinic
We work beside your OB, midwife, reproductive endocrinologist or IVF clinic, and fit visits around the phases of a treatment cycle.
Blood sugar and the ovary
In PCOS, insulin resistance and the ovary affect one another, which is why food, sleep and movement belong in the same plan as the cycle.
Both partners
Sperm health counts as much as the cycle. A partner can be seen on their own visit.
The classical lensChannels, patterns, the five phases
Jing, Tian Gui and the Chong and Ren
Women's health is read through Water and the blood. Kidney essence, jing, gives rise to Tian Gui, the classical name for what starts and sustains reproductive capacity, and it flows through the Chong and Ren vessels to the uterus. The Liver stores the blood and keeps it moving, so stress shows in the cycle early.
Phase by phase
The cycle is read and treated in phases, from the bleed to ovulation to the luteal phase, and the plan changes with each.
The character of the bleed
Timing, color, clots, pain and mood before the period are each read as part of the pattern, so the same diagnosis can be treated differently in two people.
No panels required
We do not require lab panels before treating. The cycle, pulse, tongue and history are how the pattern is read.
How we work: one plan
Acupuncture, including Master Tung's points where they fit, and herbal formulas timed to the phases of your cycle and chosen from your pattern, with food as medicine and moxibustion when the reading calls for them. If you are in an active IVF or IUI cycle, herbs are used only with your clinic's knowledge. We cannot guarantee conception, and we will not suggest otherwise.
Where care starts
Some people arrive with a clear diagnosis, others with a workup that found nothing, others mid-way through IVF or simply tired of a cycle that runs their month. The classical reading is the same starting point for all of them: what the cycle is telling us, month by month, about the terrain underneath.
Your OB, midwife, reproductive endocrinologist or IVF clinic stays in charge of the medical side. We fit around their plan and their calendar.
A first visit is a long conversation: the cycle in detail, past pregnancies, sleep, digestion, stress and what you have already tried. From there, acupuncture and herbal formulas are chosen for your pattern and adjusted as you move through the month. Between visits, we watch what you watch: cycle length, the bleed, the mid-cycle signs, sleep and energy. When your condition changes, the medicine changes with you.
Questions people ask
Can acupuncture help me get pregnant?
Acupuncture and herbs are studied as support for the cycle and for people going through fertility treatment, and research is ongoing. We cannot guarantee conception, and we will not suggest otherwise. What we offer is a careful pattern reading and a plan that changes with each phase of your cycle.
My tests all came back normal. Is there anything to read?
Often, yes. A normal workup rules out a lot, and that is valuable. The classical lens then looks at sleep, digestion, temperature, stress and the character of the cycle itself, which can point to a pattern worth treating even when the numbers sit in range.
Can I come in during an IVF cycle?
Yes. Visits are timed around stimulation, retrieval and transfer, and herbs are only used with your clinic's knowledge, with every formula checked against your medications.
Do I need lab work before my first visit?
No. We do not require lab panels before treating. If you have results from your physician or fertility clinic, bring them and we will explain what they describe, but the pattern is read from your cycle, pulse, tongue and history.
Should my partner come in too?
It helps. Sperm health is half of the picture, and a partner can be seen on their own visit. Our male fertility page explains how that reading works.
