We do not bill insurance.
Makari is a cash practice. Most of the conditions we treat, and the combination of therapies we use, are not covered by insurance. We do not bill VA Community Care or TRICARE, and we do not take personal injury cases on a lien or through insurance.
- A cash practice. Payment is due at each visit. We accept cash, check, credit card, and health savings account (HSA) and flexible spending account (FSA) cards.
- HSA and FSA cards are accepted. Acupuncture is a qualified medical expense under most HSA and FSA plans; check with your plan.
- Superbills on request. We can provide a superbill the day after your visit, for you to submit to your insurer for possible reimbursement.
- A card on file. A credit card is kept on file with our payment processor to secure your appointment and for payment at the time of service.
Initial evaluation
$225
About 75 minutes. Where every plan begins, and a separate fee.
A full classical assessment, history and examination. In most cases we also treat during this first visit. At the end we lay out a plan: the visit type, the schedule, what is included and the fees.
The evaluation is a separate fee. It is not included in, or credited toward, any package.
How a plan is built
Care at Makari is planned, not booked one session at a time. The plan comes from your evaluation and is reviewed as you go.
Initial evaluation
Your history and an examination, with a first treatment in most cases. It is a separate fee, not part of any package, and we tell you honestly whether we think we can help.
Your plan
We lay out the type of visit, the schedule, what is included and the fee. The plan follows your pattern, not a fixed package.
Follow-up visits
Visits are often closer together at the start and spaced out as the plan is reviewed. Your frequency is set individually.
Several visits, reviewed as you go
A marked change in a condition usually takes several visits, more than one or two. We reassess at every visit and adjust the plan with you.
No plan promises a result or a set number of visits. Your plan is reviewed with you as you go.
What to expect
Please plan on several visits, not one or two. A marked change in a condition usually builds over a series of treatments, so we ask you to give your plan time to work. We cannot promise a number of visits or a result: your plan is built from your evaluation, with visits closer together at first and spaced out as the plan is reviewed.

Questions about fees
Do you take insurance?
No. Makari is a cash practice and does not bill insurance, VA Community Care or TRICARE. We accept health savings account (HSA) and flexible spending account (FSA) cards, and we can give you a superbill the day after your visit to submit to your insurer for possible reimbursement. We do not take personal injury cases on a lien or through insurance.
Do I have to buy a package?
Not for pain and orthopedics or for internal medicine, fertility and hormones. After the $225 initial evaluation, a single visit is $185 for pain and orthopedics and $150 for internal medicine, fertility and hormones, paid at the visit. An internal medicine single visit is an acupuncture visit; Chinese herbal formulas are billed separately. A package sets a schedule of visits from the start and is paid in advance. The internal medicine 10-visit package includes one month of herbs, and the 20-visit package includes two months. For stroke and neurology and for vision, your options are set out at your evaluation. For pain and orthopedics, although you may pay per visit, we encourage you to commit to at least a half-course package, the 5-visit package, to truly see what our program offers.
Is the initial evaluation included in a package?
