Electro-acupuncture enhances both the duration and intensity of acupuncture’s pain relief. It has long been a standard adjunct therapy in the treatment of stroke, neurological and psychosomatic conditions along with Scalp Acupuncture Therapy. In the last decade or so electro-acupuncture is commonly used in the treatment of acute eye problems and more chronic degenerative eye conditions. Milli-amp electro-stimulation: •Provokes strong pain control responses through release of the brain’s own opioid neurotransmitters (such as endorphins and enkephalins)–as strong as morphine after 30 minutes according to scientific research •Interrupts pain/spasm cycles, and can facilitate the gains in joint range-of-motion crucial to physical rehabilitation •Stimulates proprioceptive nerve fibers, resulting in muscle tension re-balancing and re-education of injured muscles •Normalizes local blood flow and lymphatic drainage •Speeds up cell metabolism •Stimulates tissue repair and regeneration
Active Release Techniques / ART
ART is a patented, state-of-the-art soft tissue system that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles. Neuromuscular and Myofascial Release gets more specific but it does not fix the soft tissue and make it work properly. ART is protocol specific for the correction of adhesions & scar tissues restoring function to the soft tissues involved.
Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves the burning of mugwort, a small, spongy herb, to facilitate healing. Moxibustion has been used throughout Asia for thousands of years; in fact, the actual Chinese character for acupuncture, translated literally, means “acupuncture-moxibustion.” The purpose of moxibustion, as with most forms of traditional Chinese medicine, is to strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of qi, and maintain general health. Makari Wellness utilizes various forms of moxibustion as it is considered necessary in treating many cold, deficient, chronic and neurological disorders.
Guasha / Graston / Instrument Assisted Myofascial Work
Guasha was the original instrument assisted soft-tissue treatment. It used tools to perform muscle mobilizations. Gua means to scrape or scratch and the used to use it to release “the sand.” In modern times we now know “the sand” to be scar tissue and adhesions. Recently people have tried to re-invent this technique by using tools of various compositions. Once again, the tool is only as good as the one who wields it. All these instruments assisted soft-tissue therapies to act as a deeper, more intense version of manual therapy. Tools of various compositions can be used to locate muscle knots or restrictions. They do this by running the tools over your skin to feel for fibrous or scar tissue that may be causing you pain or restricting your movement. Then the tools are used to break up that tissue to restore mobility and function.
Functional Movement & Posture Correction
With the structure is imbalanced it will not move correctly. If the movement is not correct the structure will become imbalanced. Makari Wellness combines their training in various systems of Functional Movement and Static Posture corrections to fix both aspects of this catch 22. Our training with Pettibon Chiropractic, SFMA and FMS along with our Myoskeletal alignment techniques make up our synergistic approach to muscle balancing and posture alignment. We re-educate out clients movements to prevent the recurrence of conditions, to improve athletic performance and minimize injury from many sports.
Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage. Now being sold as “Myofascial Decompression”, cupping improves Myofascial mobility and neuromuscular re-education using negative pressure tools. It provides a means of separating the tissues and enhancing circulation to enhance local tissue metabolism. Cupping has many uses yet to be discovered by the other professions just starting to adopt it- but we will let them figure it out and come up with a new name. In the meantime, we also use sliding cups to treat fascial lines and integrate movement into the therapy.
We work extremely hard bringing you the absolute best of both internal and external medicine from both Eastern and Western Natural Medicine. From our family to yours, our goal is to help our community live the best life they can with those they love.
We maintain rigorous certifications in the ART (Active Release Technique), SFMA (Specific Functional Movement Assessment), FMS (Functional Movement Screen), and ICEAM (Internal Classics of East Asian Medicine) disciplines allowing us to address many conditions that have not responded to other treatments.
