Two lenses, one plan

Here the classical lens leads: differential pattern diagnosis decides the treatment, with the Western picture as context.

The Western lensAnatomy, physiology, biomechanics

Systems, not symptoms

Functional medicine looks at how digestion, sleep, stress, hormones and diet affect each other, rather than at one symptom alone.

Labs as education
We are glad to explain what a given panel is designed to measure and why it exists, but care here does not depend on one.
Your physician's workup
Tests your physician orders to rule out disease stay with your physician. Knowing what has been ruled out helps us, and anything that needs a medical workup goes back to them.

The classical lensChannels, patterns, the five phases

Pattern-precise

Here functional medicine is read through the classical lens. Pattern diagnosis gives a whole-system picture from pulse, tongue and history, without the expensive lab gatekeeping, and the advice stays simple.

Eight Principles, Five Phases, Six Conformations
Three frameworks place a pattern: on the axes of interior and exterior, cold and heat, deficiency and excess, yin and yang; in the organ network that leads; and at the depth it has reached.
Root and branch
標本: the plan treats the root while keeping the branch, the most troublesome symptom, in check, and moves through mixed patterns in order.

How we work: one plan

One reading, one plan: a classical formula, channel acupuncture, food advice and daily rhythm drawn from your pattern. Nutrients, when they fit, are kept few and simple. The plan is revisited at each follow-up as the pattern shifts. Your physician stays your primary doctor for diagnosis and medical treatment.

Root cause, read as a pattern

Functional medicine asks what sits upstream of a symptom: how digestion, sleep, stress, hormones and food are pushing on one another. Classical Chinese medicine has asked the same kind of question for a very long time, and it has its own precise way of answering it. That way is called biàn zhèng lùn zhì (辨證論治): differentiate the pattern, then treat it.

How the reading works

Three frameworks do most of the work. The Eight Principles place a pattern on four axes: interior or exterior, cold or hot, deficient or excess, yin or yang. The Five Phases show which organ network is leading and which ones it is pulling along with it. The Six Conformations describe how deep a problem has settled and how it tends to move. Pulse, tongue and a long, careful history feed all three.

Many integrative practices start with stool, hormone or cortisol panels. Those tests try to put numbers on parts of the same systems. The pattern picture maps much of what they aim to quantify, read directly, which is why care can begin at the first visit.

Upstream first

Most people with a long-standing problem carry several patterns at once. The plan works through them in order, the root before the branch (本 and 標), so a later step is not built on an earlier one that has not settled. It is especially useful when tests have come back normal and the symptoms have not: fatigue, digestion and bloating, hormone imbalance, autoimmune conditions alongside your rheumatologist, and chronic inflammation.

What the plan contains

A classical formula for your pattern, channel acupuncture, food advice and daily rhythm drawn from the same reading. Everything is checked against the medications you take, and your physician stays your primary doctor for diagnosis and medical treatment.

Questions people ask

Do I need lab tests before I start?

No. We do not require panels to begin care. The pattern is read from your pulse, tongue and history at the first visit. Tests your physician orders for medical reasons stay with your physician, and it helps us to know what has been ruled out.

How is this different from conventional care?

It is not a replacement for it. Your physician diagnoses and treats disease. Here we read how your systems are interacting as a pattern and treat that pattern with herbs, acupuncture, food and daily rhythm, alongside your medical care.

Will I be sold a stack of supplements?

No. The core of the plan is a classical formula chosen for your pattern. When a nutrient genuinely fits, it is suggested at the nutrient level and kept simple, and buying it is always optional.
