Patient stories

Some of our vision patients have chosen to share their experience and their eye doctors' scans.

Your eye doctor stays in charge. Every scan on this page was taken and read by the patient's own eye doctor. We do not perform or interpret OCT scans. Your ophthalmologist or optometrist stays in charge of your eye care: keep every exam, and keep every treatment they prescribe.

Scans from patients' eye doctors

Pigment epithelial detachment

OCT line scan through the macula, first of two: a raised dome-shaped pocket sits under the retina near the centre.

First scan

OCT line scan through the macula of the same eye, second of two: the pocket under the retina is still present and lower.

About two months later

Pigment epithelial detachment: two scans from the same eye taken by the patient's ophthalmologist about two months apart, during a course of M48 micro acupuncture combined with other acupuncture systems and a classical herbal formula. The raised pocket under the retina is smaller in the second scan. Her ophthalmologist remained in charge of her eye care.

What the scans show
The same eye on two OCT line scans, about two months apart.
What they do not show
Her vision, a diagnosis, or how the eye did afterwards. The two printouts were photographed at different zoom levels, so compare the shape of the raised pocket, not its size in pixels.

Macular line scans from three exams

OCT line scan through the macula, first of three: the inner surface of the retina is lifted into a raised area.

First exam

OCT line scan through the macula, second of three: the retinal surface lies flatter.

Second exam

OCT line scan through the macula, third of three, on a different scan setting: a smooth central dip in a flat retina.

Third exam

Line scans through the macula from three exams over about a year, taken and read by the patient's own eye doctor. The raised area seen in the first exam is flatter in the later ones.

What the scans show
Three OCT line scans through the macula of one eye, in date order.
What they do not show
Her vision or a diagnosis. We have not labelled the condition: that is for her eye doctor to name.

Questions people ask

Do you read my scans?

No. We do not perform or interpret OCT scans, measure eye pressure or test visual fields. Your eye doctor reads your scans. Please bring their reports, so we can see where you are starting from and follow the changes they measure.

This is general wellness information, not medical advice. Acupuncture and herbal medicine work alongside, not in place of, care from your physician and your eye doctor.
